Gulf Harbour Yacht Club's New Commodore

Updated: Oct 19, 2022

Congratulations to Phil Shaw, for his recent appointment as the New Commodore of the Gulf Harbour Yacht Club. Phil is the owner of 'Satisfaction' berthed here in Fairway Bay Marina.

Phil points out, "Gulf Harbour Yacht Club is brimming with experienced members willing to share their knowledge, and the club has a thriving LTS (learn to sail) programme, welcoming anyone wanting to improve their skills." The club also has many social activities including a number of interesting evening speakers, of which the general public are very welcome. There is a very full racing and cruising calendar, and GHYC also is available for private functions, meetings and weddings - all the details are on their website.

Phil can be regularly seen meeting new and enthusiastic crew at the marina gate for sailing lessons on his yacht Satisfaction. "We we enjoy taking newbies out and introducing them to the sport, this is where we have seen the most promising growth at the club and we now have a number of fully qualified keel boat instructors," says Phil. "We are a very social boat."

"Marnie and I are fairly new to Gulf Harbour, living just above Fairway Bay, and are excited about the fresh approach and growth we see in the local area." Phil owns Shaws Berry Farm - a contract food manufacturing business based in Coatesville, whilst Marnie is a Senior Recruitment manager at Vector, based in Newmarket. Between them they have five grown children - all still in New Zealand.
